Aristotelian Liberty

Aristotelian liberals believe that Aristotle was not a libertarian, however they believe that there are some ideals that Aristotle believed that do comply with their worldview. When Aristotle spoke of living a good human life (that is a life lived according to virtue) the Aristotelian liberals spin that around and say that you need freedom or else the virtue is not true virtue. Because, if a man had a gun to your head and said, “Do virtuous deeds or else I’ll shoot you.” are the deeds true virtue? They say no. However, if you do virtuous deeds on your own without coercion then that is true virtue. They also say that if we are rational creatures then we must not use violent force to solve our problems. We should interact with people on the basis of a reason and persuasion.
