Amazing Monks

An interesting influence on western civilization was the monks of the late Roman Empire. When calamity and strife spread through Rome like wildfire, there was little to no place one could find order. However, monasteries kept in place order and scientific advances. Monks of the monasteries could show people metallurgy, agriculture advances, the rearing of cattle, raising bees, gardening fruit, and brewing beer. But it was not only these occupations that the monks provided the world with. Also the monasteries could be used as hospitals when needed. Perhaps if you were in dire need of shelter monasteries would be sort of like an inn. Sometimes people would go to monasteries to be educated. So they were kind of like schools in a way. Although being very tragic it did not matter if barbarians came and sacked a large amount of monasteries because they had so much knowledge about rebuilding they could easily repair damage.
